Live Animal Policy!
Emerald Canopy Exotics
Live Animal & Feeder Policy
At Emerald Canopy Exotics, we take great pride in offering healthy, high-quality animals and feeder insects. Please review the following policies before placing your order. By completing your purchase, you acknowledge and agree to these terms.
Our Commitment to Quality
We prioritize captive-bred animals whenever possible. If an animal is farm-raised (FR) or field-collected (FC), we make every effort to clearly indicate this within the product listing.
Unless specifically stated, photos on our website are representative examples of the species. Natural variation in color, pattern, and size is normal and expected.
Live Arrival & Health Guarantee
Reptiles
• 3-Day Health Guarantee
• Live Arrival Guarantee
Amphibians, Tarantulas & Scorpions
• Live Arrival Guarantee
To ensure the safety of all animals, claims must follow the guidelines below.
Weather & Seasonal Guidelines
The safety of our animals is our highest priority.
Live Arrival and Health Guarantees may be suspended when:
• Overnight temperatures fall below 40°F
• Daytime highs exceed 80°F
Certain amphibians (frogs, toads, salamanders) are more temperature-sensitive and may not be eligible for guarantees during peak summer and winter months.
When necessary, we may recommend shipment to a local carrier hub for pickup to ensure optimal safety.
In the Rare Event of an Issue
While issues are extremely uncommon, we are here to help.
• DOA claims must be reported within 6 hours of delivery
• Health claims must be reported within 72 hours
• Clear photos (top, side, belly-up) are required
• Photos must include the shipping box and label
All shipments must be signed for on the first delivery attempt to qualify for guarantee consideration.
Proper Care Requirement
Guarantees apply when animals are housed appropriately with:
• Correct heating and lighting
• Proper enclosure size
• Suitable substrate and environmental conditions
We may request photos of your enclosure to better assist with any claim.
Shipping & Carrier Responsibility
We use professional-grade insulated packaging and industry best practices to ensure safe transit.
However, once a package has been accepted by the carrier:
• We are not responsible for carrier delays
• Shipping fees are non-refundable
• Address errors or rerouting requests may void guarantees
If a Live Arrival claim is approved, replacement or store credit may be offered at our discretion. Shipping fees are the responsibility of the customer.
Live animals and feeder insects are not eligible for refunds.
Order Finality
Live animal and feeder orders are considered final once placed. Due to the nature of live inventory management, cancellations or modifications are not possible after processing begins.
Seasonal Carrier Volume
During peak holiday shipping periods (mid-December), carrier delays are more common. Orders shipped during these windows may not qualify for standard guarantees.
Sizing & Sexing
Size descriptions (hatchling, juvenile, adult, etc.) are approximate.
Gender identification is provided as a best-effort service and cannot be guaranteed due to the biological variability of many species.
Feeder Insect Policy
Live feeder insects shipped via economy methods do not carry a Live Arrival Guarantee. Expedited shipping options may be available for customers seeking additional security.
Legal Responsibility
Customers are responsible for ensuring compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations regarding animal ownership.
Ongoing Support
We are always happy to assist with general care guidance including enclosure setup, heating, lighting, and feeding recommendations. While we are not veterinarians, we encourage seeking a qualified exotic veterinarian for any medical concerns.
Your Safety
At Emerald Canopy Exotics, the wellbeing of both our animals and our customers is extremely important to us.
Some species may bite, scratch, sting, or cause allergic reactions if handled improperly. Certain reptiles, amphibians, arachnids, and feeder insects can carry natural bacteria (including Salmonella in reptiles). Proper hygiene and handling practices are essential.
For your safety, we recommend:
• Always washing hands thoroughly after handling animals or enclosures
• Supervising children at all times
• Using appropriate handling tools when necessary
• Never allowing animals to roam freely in food preparation areas
• Researching species-specific temperament and care needs before purchase
By placing an order, you acknowledge that you understand the inherent risks associated with owning and handling exotic animals and feeder insects.
Emerald Canopy Exotics is not liable for injuries, allergic reactions, or damages resulting from improper handling, husbandry, or supervision.
If you ever have questions about safe handling practices, we are happy to provide general guidance
